Protection of archaeological heritage sought
Minister for Culture Pir Aftab Hussain Shah Jilani on Saturday emphasized the need for preservation of archaeological heritage in the country.
In a meeting, Jilani directed the staff of the ministry to prepare a project for preservation of Mohenjodaro.
“We cannot compromise on our archaeological heritage for the sake of development activities,” he said.
He also directed the ministry, Quaid-i-Azam Papers Editor-in-Chief Akram Shaheedi, PNCA Director General Tauqeer Nasir, Lok Virsa chief and others to arrange a board of governors meeting to start work on cultural promotion.
He also directed them to explore the possibilities of holding an inter-provincial meeting of ministers to formulate a unified cultural policy to protect and promote Pakistan’s heritage, especially when acts of terrorism have taken their toll on them.
Secretary Culture Moinul Islam Bukhari briefed the minister on the operations of various bodies working under the ministry.
