Cultural activities to be held on Benazir Bhutoo’s birth anniversary
Various cultural activities will be organised in the federal capital to mark the birth anniversary of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, who was born on June 21, 1953.
The Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) is organising a portrait painting exhibition on the premises of National Art Gallery (NAG) on June 18, which is open for all.
The winning participants would be awarded with cash prizes and the winner would be given Rs50,000, first runner-up would receive Rs30,000 and second runner-up would get Rs20,000.
Besides that a show ‘Roshni Ka Safar’ featuring tableax, regional dances, skits and songs would be organised on June 20, at 100 Quarters, Sector F-6/2, Islamabad. A stage play ‘Khawab Martay Nahin’, written and directed by Agha Nasir, would be staged on June 22, while a musical evening ‘Baithak’ with Ustad Fateh Ali Khan would be held on the same evening.
Meanwhile, Lok Virsa, the National Institute of Folk & Traditional Heritage, plans to celebrate the forthcoming birth anniversary of ‘Shaheed-e-Jamhuriat’ Benazir Bhutto in a befitting manner.
A photographic exhibition titled as ‘Fighter of Democracy’ will be organised by the Lok Virsa. The exhibition depicts the life of Benazir Bhutto; her historical moments with family including father Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, mother Nusrat Bhutto, sister Sanam Bhutto, brothers Shahnawaz and Murtaza Bhutto, husband Asif Ali Zardari and children Bilawal, Bakhtawar and Aseefa; her interactions with the world leaders including George Bush Sr, Margaret Thatcher, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Francois Mitterand, Yasser Arafat, Indira Gandhi and Hamid Karzai; contributions rendered by her during the two time premiership and above all, her untiring struggle for the restoration of democracy in Pakistan, which culminated on her assassination on December 27, 2007.
An exhibition of books on Quaid-i-Awam Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto will be also organised in collaboration with Vanguard Books. The exhibition will display books written by both the Bhuttos themselves as well as other writers/intellectuals acknowledging their contributions to the nation and paying tributes to them.
Audio visual presentations on Benazir Bhutto with special emphasis on her last visit to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will also be screened on large multi media projector during the exhibition.
The opening ceremony of the photographic and book exhibition will take place on Monday June 21, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the Heritage Museum, Lok Virsa Complex, Garden Avenue , Shakarparian, Islamabad.
Federal Minister for Culture Pir Aftab Hussain Shah Jilani will inaugurate the exhibition followed by a cake cutting ceremony to be attended by the parliamentarians and leading political figures.
